Can't Go Home

This song was inspired by frogs. When I wrote it in the mid-90's, the statistic had come to light that there were a third fewer frogs and toads on the planet than when I was a kid, apparent victims of out-of-control pollution.

I had the old tune "This World Is Not My Home" in my head when I wrote it. It's on my solo album The Salt Of Your Skin (2002).

Bigger and better and the bottom line
Bigger and better and the bottom line
Bigger and better and the bottom line
Quickest way to waltz up to the end of time Can't go home Can't go home The world I come from's gone Can't go home You get in the mood to give the world hell So you poison all the water in the well That'll make you feel good till by and by Start to notice how your throat feels dry Guess what the world I come from's gone Guess what the world I come from's gone Guess what the world I come from's gone And there's sure not a better one coming along Not one good river, not one good wood Not one clean rain, it's gone for good One more mass market, one more green lawn No Swainson's hawk, it's gone it's gone
Can't go home
Can't go home
The world I come from's gone
Can't go home
